Fixed braces use brackets and wires to move teeth gradually into a better position, and can be used to treat a range of alignment and bite concerns in children, teenagers and adults.

Fixed braces are small brackets bonded to your teeth and connected by a wire. The wire is adjusted at regular appointments, and over time it gradually moves your teeth into the planned position.
Braces can be used to treat a range of problems, from crowded or gappy teeth to problems with how the upper and lower teeth meet. Whether braces are suitable, how long treatment is likely to take and what the alternatives are will all be explained after an assessment.
Wearing braces takes commitment. You will need to keep your teeth very clean, adapt what you eat, and attend regular appointments. After treatment, a retainer is normally needed to help keep your teeth in place.
Book Your ConsultationYour dentist will tell you whether braces are suitable for your teeth. These are some of the reasons they are used.
Not sure whether fixed braces, clear aligners or another option would suit you? Book an assessment and your dentist can talk through the options.
Book a ConsultationYour dentist examines your teeth, gums and bite, and may take X-rays or other records, to see whether braces are suitable.
They explain the plan, the likely length of treatment, the risks, the alternatives and the cost, and answer your questions before you decide.
The braces are fitted and then adjusted at regular appointments, with advice on cleaning and eating throughout.
When your teeth reach the planned position, the braces are removed and a retainer is provided to help keep them there.
Your dentist explains fixed braces and the alternatives, with the benefits and risks of each.

Book Your AppointmentBraces are not usually painful, but your teeth can feel sore for a few days after they are fitted and after adjustments. Over-the-counter pain relief may help, and your dentist can advise. Tell us if the discomfort is severe or does not settle.
It depends on your teeth and the movements needed. Your dentist will give you an estimate at your assessment, but treatment time can change as your plan progresses.
Yes. Braces are used for children, teenagers and adults, provided the teeth and gums are healthy enough. Your dentist will assess you.
You will need to brush carefully after eating and clean around the brackets and wires, often with special brushes. Your dentist will show you how, and may recommend regular visits to a hygienist.
Hard, sticky and chewy foods can damage braces or pull brackets off. Your dentist will give you advice on what to avoid.
Contact us for advice. Keep your next appointment unless we tell you otherwise, and do not ignore a broken brace.
Yes, normally. Teeth can move back after braces are removed, so a retainer is usually advised to help keep them in position. Your dentist will explain which type and for how long.
Many people can, and your dentist can advise. If you play contact sport, ask about a suitable mouthguard.
